Why We Choose Natural Fibers

For much of history, clothing was made from natural materials and cherished for long-term wear. However, with the rise of synthetic fibers—cheap and easy to mass-produce—the value and price of clothing began to decline. Finite and once-precious natural materials were replaced by synthetic alternatives that could be produced endlessly at low cost.

As mass production lowered manufacturing costs, clothing output increased dramatically while the length of time garments were worn decreased significantly. Today, the fashion industry is said to account for approximately 10% of global carbon dioxide emissions generated by human activity. Large amounts of CO₂ are released not only during disposal through incineration, but also throughout production and transportation processes. In addition, around 500,000 tons of microfibers—equivalent to 50 billion plastic bottles—are released into the ocean every year through washing, primarily from polyester-based textiles.

At yinyang, we primarily use natural materials such as cotton, linen, and hemp. When necessary, we incorporate 5–10% polyurethane to provide stretch and functionality, carefully balancing comfort, durability, and environmental consideration.

The Unique Qualities of Natural Materials

Natural fibers offer many qualities that synthetic materials simply cannot replicate.

They are highly breathable, moisture-absorbing, and insulating, allowing for comfort across all seasons. Linen and cotton fibers are hollow in structure, which enhances airflow—keeping you cool in summer—while trapping air to provide warmth in cooler months.

Their excellent moisture absorption helps prevent stuffiness, and their soft, gentle texture places less stress on the skin, making them suitable even for those with sensitive skin.

Natural materials also allow you to enjoy their inherent texture and character. As they age, their appearance evolves over time, developing a unique patina. This natural aging process invites long-term use, allowing each piece to be loved and worn for years without losing its appeal.

The land and nature that sustain our lives are gifts from the Earth—supporting all living beings and offering us abundance.

At yinyang, we honor harmony with nature by carefully selecting the materials we use in our products. These include organic cotton grown without chemical fertilizers or pesticides, plant-based rayon, natural linen, and recycled materials.

To ensure comfort and ease of movement during yoga practice, we primarily use natural fibers such as cotton, linen, and hemp. When necessary, we incorporate 5–10% polyurethane to provide the stretch required for functionality, while remaining mindful of balance between performance and environmental responsibility.

Main Natural Fibers Used by yinyang

Organic Cotton

Organic cotton refers to cotton grownin accordance withstrict standards, without the use of chemical fertilizers, insecticides, or herbicides for at least two to three years.Throughout the entire production process, environmental impact is minimized while ensuring safe working conditions and adherence to social standards, including the prohibition of child labor. Only materials produced under these conditions are recognized as organic cotton products.

Rayon / Modal

Atyinyang, we use rayon made from beechwood and eucalyptus. It is known for its smooth texture, gentle sheen, and fluid drape against the skin.Unlike synthetic fibers such as polyester or nylon, rayon is a plant-based regenerated fiber. Cellulose extracted from plants is dissolved and then reconstituted into fibers, offering a balance of natural origin and refined comfort.

Linen

Linen is a natural plant fiber made from the dried stems of flax. Among plant fibers, linen is especially soft and breathable, with a crisp yet comfortable feel. Lightweight yet durable, linen becomes softer and more lustrous with continued use. It is naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic, highly absorbent, quick-drying, and biodegradable—making it an eco-friendly material that can return to the soil.

Hemp

Hemp is highly valued for its natural antibacterial and deodorizing properties. Its fiberscontaincountless microscopic pores, givingitexcellent moisture-regulating qualities.Hemp can be grown in a wide range of climates—from cool to tropical—and in both poor and fertile soils. It requires no pesticides or chemical fertilizers, every part of the plant can beutilized, and it even helps improve soil quality, making it an exceptionally sustainable material.

EcoN

The EcoN series features an Italian-made, eco-conscious fabric crafted from recycled nylon. It offers a smooth feel and reliable stretch while maintaining durability. This high-quality material allows the skin to breathe and excels in moisture permeability and quick-drying performance, making it ideal for active yoga practice and warmer seasons. For added comfort, the EcoN series uses tag-free printing for brand names and care instructions directly on the garment. It is also well suited for water activities such as swimming or spending time by the sea.
